How Stressed Are Cities in The KC Region?



Kansas City, MO ranked 87th in a study ranking major U.S. cities based on stress by WalletHub released Monday.


Kansas City ranked in the top 50 percent of U.S. cities with the most to least levels of stress in the nation, according to a study by WalletHub released Monday.

In 2023’s Most & Least Stressed Cities in America report, 180 cities were compared across 39 key metrics with data sets ranging from stressors such as average weekly work hours, unemployment rates, divorce and suicide rates.

Kansas City, MO ranked 87th in most overall stressed city in the nation with a total score of 42.58. Moreover, it ranked 91st for work stress, 83rd for financial stress, 150th for family stress and 15th for health and safety stress.
 

Next on the ranking is Wichita, KS, which ranked 104th overall, with a total score of 40.68. Wichita also ranked 151st for work stress, 57th for financial stress, 151st for family stress and 52nd for health and safety stress.

Overland Park ranked 179th overall with a total score of 27.83, earning the only spot across the two-state area to be placed in the five least stressed cities in the U.S. Overland Park also ranked 70th for work stress, 175th for financial stress, 176th for family stress and 174th for health and safety stress.

Inversely, St. Louis, MO ranked high in stress levels as it ranked 9th overall with a total score of 53.30. It ranked 48th for work stress, 8th for financial stress, 31st for family stress and 17th for health and safety stress.
