The City of Kansas City, Missouri, and Grayson Capital have partnered to develop a state-of-the-art parking facility in the heart of the historic 18th & Vine District.

The project aims to enhance infrastructure and accessibility while supporting the vibrant cultural, entertainment and historical significance of the area, according to a release.

The $20 million development would feature a 470-space parking garage, located at 1819 Lydia Avenue. The project’s funds were allocated from the City Council in October 2024. Local developer Grayson Capital is the lead developer for the project and JE Dunn Construction will help in construction.

“Kansas City is proud to enhance the 18th & Vine Jazz District, promoting its growth and preserving its legacy as a premier cultural, entertainment, and housing district for generations to come,” Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas said in the release. “Working with the Grayson Capital team, the City looks forward to building the infrastructure in parking and walkability to support thousands of residents and visitors for future developments in the Jazz District.”

Once completed, Kansas City will own and operate the garage. The parking facility is currently in the design phase and is expected to break ground later this year. Developers hope to complete the facility in time for the FIFA World Cup 2026.

“I am excited to continue to see the development of the Historic 18th and Vine Jazz District,” Third District Councilwoman Melissa Robinson said in the release. “The construction of parking enhancements will increase walkability, safety and accessibility to Kansas City’s most treasured culture, businesses and historic neighborhood.”
