Healthcare Largest Decrease in Job Opening For May



588,000 healthcare and social assistance workers quit their jobs in May, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.


In May, the largest decrease in job openings was in health care and social assistance, down 285,000 compared to April 2023, according to figures from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Approximately 3.8 million Americans quit or voluntarily resigned from their jobs in May and healthcare workers are no exception.

Healthcare and social assistance saw 588,000 quits in May, an increase of 519,000 compared to April. Meanwhile, the quits rate — the number of resignations as a share of total employment — was 2.8 percent in May compared to 2.4 percent in April, 2.6 percent in May 2022.

On top of that, healthcare and social assistance experienced 148,000 layoffs in May.

While these numbers look dire, healthcare and social assistance month-over-month hires are looking to have a steady climb. A total of 864,000 new workers were hired in May, and increase of 57,000 compared to April.
