Missouri Gov. Mike Parson is committed to keeping the state’s reopening date due to COVID-19 at June 15, despite a fluctuation in Missouri’s cases.
“June the 15th is where we’re at on that, and we look at everything every day,” Parson told The Missouri Times. “We’ve got a lot of things going on right now in the state of Missouri: You’ve got COVID-19 we’re dealing with every day, summer starting to open back up, different activities normal people are out, that’s why we’ve increased the testing. You’ve got the protests going on out there, and there are risks involved in that. We just need to see where we’re at with everything.”
In Kansas City, Mayor Quinton Lucas has issued reopening guidance for restaurants and has allowed a reopening that started May 15.
He told Ingram’s: ” Every day is challenging. I have heard now, for about a month and a half at least, about how painful this is for business and how much of a challenge it is for employees and employers and so many who have had their worlds turned upside down in a short amount of time. I want people to know that I care and am concerned about it, but that we’re doing this in the best interest of public health and to make sure that people are safe and that there is consumer confidence. That’s usually what the balance looks like.”
