General Motors Co. will no longer produce the Cadillac XT4 at its Fairfax plant come January.
The Cadillac XT4, a gas-powered SUV, is the latest vehicle model to cease production at the Kansas City, Kansas plant. In May, GM also paused production of the Chevrolet Malibu at the plant.
These halted manufactured models are part of a retooling effort for the KCK facility. GM announced it would enter a $391 million plan to change the facility’s main production to the Chevrolet Bolt EV, an electric vehicle.
The Fairfax facility is scheduled to begin production of the Bolt EV in late 2025.
In September, GM said it would lay off nearly 1,700 workers from Fairfax. According to GM, the layoffs will come into effect in phases. The first round of layoffs, which will begin on Nov. 18, will see 686 full-time employees lose their jobs. Additionally, 250 temporary workers at Fairfax will be terminated. The second phase of layoffs will begin on Jan. 12 when 759 full-time workers will be laid off.
GM said it would retain the laid-off workers once the plant is ready to begin production of the Bolt EV.
