Garmin is commemorating the fact it has simultaneously sold more than 200 million of its GPS navigation/wearable technology products and also opened the first phase of its headquarter expansion in Olathe. According to a release from the company, the 750,000-square-foot manufacturing and distribution center more than doubles the company’s aviation product manufacturing and distribution capacity.
The release also described the next steps Garmin will be taking, which includes moving on to phase two of renovating the existing Garmin warehouse and manufacturing space into a research and development facility. “Now that the first phase of the Olathe campus expansion–the expanded manufacturing facility–is open and operating, the move of the company’s distribution center will begin early next year,” the company said.
Once the 96-acre campus is complete, Garmin Olathe will have 2.25 million square feet of space there, with room for up to 2,600 additional jobs.
