There was a major jump in the acceptance of mask use as a way to prevent COVID-19 infection from March to April.
A recent Gallup poll found that 32 percent of heath professionals say wearing a mask is just as or more effective than hand washing, up from 11 percent in March.
The number of those saying hand washing is more effective fell from 88 percent to 68 percent.
Meanwhile, 36 percent of Americans polled said they always wore a mask in public, while 32 percent said they sometimes do. Thirty-one percent said they declined to wear masks.
