Furniture Mall of Missouri announced it plans to move into the Northland Macy’s building with renovation scheduled to kick off in April.

Based in Topeka, The Furniture Mall operates three locations in Olathe, Lee’s Summit and Topeka. The retailer will move into the department store located at 400 NW Barry Road and occupy 150,000 square feet. Approximately 46,000 square feet of the former Macy’s is available for lease.

Renovations are set to begin April 1, according to a release. The grand opening is expected before the end of 2025. The renovations will incorporate more than 1,000 furniture rooms for customers to visit in addition to the installment of a café.

“We love being part of the communities we serve, and Kansas City already feels like home,” co-owner of The Furniture Mall, Jeff Winter, said in a press release. “Being a local, family business means we’re not just here to sell furniture—we’re here to build relationships and help families create spaces they truly love.”

The move is part of the Metro North Crossing development, a 106-acre mixed-use redevelopment of the former Metro North Mall and led by IAS Partners. The Metro North Crossing is already home to tenets including Third Street Social, Hawaiian Bros, Whataburger and T-Shotz, a 52,000-square-foot golf venue, and more.
