First day back for some students in two Kansas City schools

In-person classes resume for teachers and students at two local elementary schools that offer year-round schooling.

On Monday, teachers and students returned to the classroom for the first time since the coronavirus outbreak in March.

Two Kansas City metro schools, Crestview and Winnwood elementary, normally open year-round, opened their doors once again to students.

With coronavirus continuing to spread, the schools are taking safety measures to ensure the building are prepared to handle in-person teaching.

Before entering, everyone will have their temperature checked and will be required to wear a mask. No additional visitors are allowed in the building and staff will disinfect often and will complete wellness checks before anyone steps inside.

Other changes for students include timed turns on playground equipment in small groups and lunches will be eaten in the classroom to avoid large group gatherings in the cafeterias.

This is the first group of students back in session in the Kansas City area for the 2020-21 school year, although North Kansas City is heading into its second week of in-person summer school.

Virtual summer and year-round school is also available for families that cannot send their child back yet.
