Federal government to send vaccines directly to pharmacies

The U.S. government will soon begin sending 1 million additional COVID-19 vaccines directly to pharmacies. Previously, only CVS and Walgreens could get vaccines. These shipments will be in addition to vaccines already sent out to states.

Recently, the Biden administration announced 1 million additional COVID-19 vaccines will be shipped to pharmacies starting next week.

The vaccines that are to be sent out will be in addition to vaccines the federal government has already distributed to states.

Previously, only CVS and Walgreens pharmacies could get the vaccines, and only for seniors in nursing homes. Now, that list has been expanded to include a broader list of pharmacies that will be included in the direct-to-pharmacy COVID-19 vaccine distribution.

According to the announcement from the administration, the government is partnering with 6,500 pharmacies nationwide.

Based on percent of the U.S. population, Missouri will get about 20,000 vaccines each week. Kansas will get roughly 10,000. Anyone in a current phase qualifies to receive the vaccine.

The Biden administration says it will increase the program to 40,000 pharmacies nationwide once manufacturers are able to produce enough vaccines.
