Dr. Anthony Fauci, a member of the White House COVID-19 task force, warned that cities and states reopening too soon could have a major negative impact if those locales don’t have the proper resources to deal with an uptick in cases.
Fauci also said that it was premature for schools to reopen in the fall, since there would likely not be a vaccine or treatment for the disease available by then.
“My concern that if some areas — cities, states or what have you — jump over those various checkpoints and prematurely open up, without having the capability of being able to respond effectively and efficiently, my concern is we will start to see little spikes that might turn into outbreaks,” Fauci said in testimony before the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, as reported by CNN.
