Prime Healthcare, the California hospital company that entered the Kansas City market in 2012 with acquisition of Providence Medical Center and St. John Hospital, has expanded its footprint here with by completing the acquisition of St. Joseph Medical Center and St. Mary’s Medical Center.
That gives Prime a bracket around the metropolitan area, from western Wyandotte County (Providence) and Leavenworth (St. John) to south Kansas City (St. Joseph) and Blue Springs (St. Mary). The latest entries to the fold bring a combined 456 beds and 900 physicians on staff. Marketwide, four hospitals total 932 beds, about 12.5 percent of the metro area total.
“Having four hospitals on both sides of the Missouri River gives us a significant market presence to better serve these communities,” said Luis Leon, president of operations for Prime Healthcare.
“Prime Healthcare looks forward to working with the physicians, nurses and employees at St. Joseph Medical Center and St. Mary’s Medical Center to ensure the best care for the patients they serve,” Prem Reddy, President and CEO of Prime Healthcare Services, said in a release announcing completion of the deal. “Prime hospitals are consistently ranked among the best hospitals in the nation, and we have no doubt that these facilities will continue that legacy.”
The release from Prime said that three Carondelet Health long-term care facilities–Carondelet Manor, Villa Saint Joseph and St. Mary’s Manor–and the charitable foundations of St. Joseph and St. Mary will remain part of Ascension. The purchase price of the acquisitions was not disclosed.
