The De Soto City Council has approved the $3.5 million development of a district that would install sewage lines for around 200 acres.
The sewer line would be extended approximately 1.7 miles to the intersection of 95th and Lexington Ave., south of Kansas Highway 10. The development includes within it 24 properties. The district required at least 50% approval from property owners. The district is located north of Astra Enterprise Park and the Panasonic EV battery plant.
The total cost of the improvements is $3.5 million plus interest on financing, cost of insurance, debt service reserves and any capitalized interest. Construction will begin in May and conclude in spring 2026.
As of Thursday, 18 property owners signed and acknowledged the partition. Petitioners have given consent to have their property assessed over the term of twenty 20 years.
A study performed in July 2024 by Professional Engineering Consultants showed the cost per acre ranges from approximately $16,100 to $17,800, depending on three improvement scenarios.
