Board members met starting at 9:30 a.m. today, in part to discuss COVID-19 funding. Included on the agenda is discussion of reopening the economy in the county.

Although there have been no recent updates on the progress of the vote so far, board members will be voting on a $4.1 million proposal for additional spending. If passed, the funding is expected to supply more tests – around 50,000 – for Johnson County.
Despite openings across the county, several restrictions have remained in place as expectations with no enforcement. These expectations include groups of no more than 45 people, continuing to wear masks in public and that businesses, if open, have social distancing guidelines for customers.
The current list of restrictions could also be extended or change, depending on the board’s decision.
For now, the Johnson County, Kan. website continues to refer to the state’s plan, reading, “Johnson County Board of County Commissioners and the Johnson County Department of Health and Environment strongly recommend that Johnson County residents and businesses continue to adhere to the Ad Astra: A Plan to Reopen Kansas recommendations.”
