Coping with COVID: Johnson County to begin Phase 2 vaccines for 65 and up, K-12 teachers

While COVID-19 vaccinations continue for first responders and anyone over 80 years old, a new round of COVID-19 vaccinations has begun this week. Phase 2 of vaccinations began Monday for Johnson County, Kan. residents 65 and up, K-12 staff, retail and food industry workers and more.

The Johnson County Department of Health and Environment (JCDHE) expands the list of people eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.

Starting Feb. 1, the county expanded the list of those eligible to receive the vaccine to those over 65, K-12 staff, grocery store workers, transportation employees, retail workers and food service workers.

The county health director, Dr. Samni Areola, said the department will contact healthcare workers now able to get their second doses.

JCDHE said it is still working to vaccinate anyone older than 80 years old as well as first responders.

Anyone included in Phase 2 of the county’s distribution plan may fill out an interest form. The county plans to contact those who are eligible by email or phone with instructions for how to schedule an appointment this week.
