According to University of Kansas Health System Dr. David Wild, individuals in the Kansas City metro being admitted for COVID-19 are revealing a change in the patient population.
Over the course of July and August, the number of patients being admitted into area hospitals increased, however the demographics of these patients was one notable change doctors at the University of Kansas Health System say has stood out.
“We are seeing younger patients who have less comorbidities and more of those patients are staying in the hospital two or three days,” Dr. Wild said. “And that means we are actually turning the patients over faster and faster.”
Despite July and August hospital case numbers appearing similar to today’s average daily numbers, Wild says the volume of patients being treated and released is increasing and the length of their stay has dropped.
Although this does reveal a drop in the average age being treated, it also partially reveals improved treatment.
