Coping with COVID: Missouri gains ground on COVID-19 vaccination rate, Kansas close behind

As of mid-day Friday, Missouri reported a 15.5 percent share of its population has received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. Kansas trails behind at 15.1 percent, while each state shows well over 1 million total doses have been administered so far.

A large swath of the Midwest region is showing promising rates of total doses administered, according to a U.S. COVID-19 vaccination tracker from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

According to the tracker, the percent of the total population that has received one or more doses of the COVID-19 vaccine is at 16.3 percent as of Friday mid-day.

Missouri is not far behind, reporting 15.5 percent of its population has initiated vaccination. Kansas is behind, but not far, at 15.1 percent.

Of the 15.5 percent that have begun vaccination, 8.1 percent have completed vaccination, according to Missouri’s COVID-19 Dashboard. Broken down, the number of people who have initiated (started) vaccination is 948,822 and the number of people who have completed vaccination is 498,724.

In neighboring Kansas, the number of people vaccinated with one dose is 439,127 as of Friday mid-day. Total doses reported as administered as of the same time showed 658,459.

In Missouri, total doses administered including first and second doses 1,477,135 as of Friday. Kansas reports 1,015,940 total doses have been distributed so far.

Each state reports the largest age group to have received a COVID-19 vaccine fall within the 85 and older category.

For Missouri, the next largest share to have received the vaccine fall within the 65-74 age range followed by those between the ages of 75-84. Kansas varies slightly from showing the second largest group to receive the vaccine are ages 75-84, followed by those ages 65-74.
