Coping with COVID: Missouri and Kansas City show increase in new cases and deaths

Statewide reports Thursday show a jump up to 708 new cases while the metro has recorded its highest number of COVID-19 deaths in a single day.

On Thursday, the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services reported 708 cases of COVID-19, bringing the statewide total to 30,422 since the start of the outbreak.

Kansas City in similar fashion showed a jump today, this time in new cases and COVID-19 related deaths.

The metro reported the largest number of new cases in over a week in the area with 378 new cases. Weekly averages show 290 new cases for last week and 188 new cases two weeks ago.

Also reported were 11 new COVID-19 related deaths. The previous record number of new deaths was eight, recorded June 20.

Jackson County stood out Thursday recording the majority of new deaths, reporting nine total.

While death rates remain low considering the amount of new cases sprouting up over recent weeks, Thursday’s numbers have brought renewed concern to COVID-19 for residents in the area.
