By Madison Parry

Doctors with the health system report its number of active COVID-19 patients has made a record drop, reaching as low as five active patients this week on Thursday. Of that number, only one patient was in the ICU on a ventilator.

The University of Kansas Health System reported a new low in its active COVID-19 patients that it hasn’t seen in a long time.

On Thursday, the health system said it has five people with the active virus still being treated, down from eight Wednesday. Of those patients, one was in the ICU and on a ventilator.

Patients with the active virus kicked back up to eight on Friday but remained in the single digits. Of those patients, three are in the ICU.

As of Friday, 19 other patients are still hospitalized because of COVID-19 but are out of the acute infection phase, up from 18 yesterday. That’s a total of 27 patients, up from 23 yesterday.
