Coping with COVID: KU Health, Stormont Vail Health report plunge in COVID-19 admissions

The University of Kansas Health System has reported another promising downtick in the number of active COVID-19 patients, treating 14 people with the virus Monday, down from 36 two weeks ago. Stormont Vail likewise reported a drop, showing it is treating nine, down from 27 two weeks ago.

The numbers of COVID-19 patients at The University of Kansas Health System continue to improve on Monday, March 8. Fourteen people with the active virus are being treated, down from 15 on Friday.

Of those 14 patients, three are in the ICU, the same as Friday. Two of those ICU patients are on ventilators today, up from one on Friday.

Twenty-three other patients are still hospitalized because of COVID-19 but are out of the acute infection phase, down from 31 Friday. That’s a total of 37 patients, down from 46 on Friday.

In similar fashion, Stormont Vail Health is showing a decent drop in COVID-19 patients with the active virus, reporting it is treating nine people as of Monday.

The steady decline in those needing to be hospitalized for COVID-19 is a positive turnaround for the Kansas City region after a spike over the winter months.
