Coping with COVID: KU Health System reports steady decline in active COVID-19 patients



The University of Kansas Health System has reported a drop in the number of hospitalized patients with the active virus over the weekend. HaysMed likewise reported a decrease while Stormont Vail reported an uptick from Friday but is holding steady on case count.

The numbers of active COVID-19 patients has dropped once again at The University of Kansas Health System with 43 people with the active virus hospitalized today, down from 50 on Friday.

Ten patients are in the ICU, the same as Friday. Five of those ICU patients are on ventilators today, down from eight Friday, according to a Monday media briefing hosted by KU Health.

Sixty other patients are still hospitalized because of COVID-19 but are out of the acute infection phase, up from 55 Friday. That’s a total of 103 patients, down from 105 Friday.

In addition, HaysMed has a total of 12 COVID-19 inpatients, down from 16 Friday, with four of those active patients and eight in the recovery phase.

Stormont Vail’s Monday COVID-19 Scorecard showed a current county of 47 inpatients who are COVID-19 positive. This is up from 42 on Friday.

The health system also reported that it is caring for 129 COVID-19 positive patients in its Enhanced Primary Care program. They have had 606 participants in the program since it started in November.

The percentage of patient testing positive for COVID-19 at Stormont Vail facilities is 16.9 percent, noted as symptomatic people in the region.
