Coping with COVID: Kansas City to add COVID-19 Vaccine Task Force to coordinate distribution

A slow vaccination rate across the state of Missouri has prompted approval to create a Vaccine Task Force in Kansas City, Mo. A city council vote has pushed forward the plan to establish a COVID-19 Vaccine Task Force to help coordinate vaccine distribution to residents.

The COVID-19 vaccination rate among residents of Kansas City, Mo. is expected to pick up soon, the Kansas City Council voting to approve the creation of a COVID-19 Vaccine Task Force.

As of Thursday, Jan. 28, Missouri is tied at last with Idaho in the percentage of people that have already received the COVID-19 vaccine. Missouri shows 4.8 percent of residents have received the first dose so far, according to a map from The New York Times displaying vaccine rollout by state.

Establishing the COVID-19 Vaccine Task Force is expected to coordinate vaccine distribution to residents of Kansas City, Mo.

The creation of the task force, “…aims to be in alignment with the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services’ COVID-19 vaccination campaign to reduce mortality and morbidity of COVID-19 within Missouri and to provide relief to critically stressed healthcare and community resources,” according to the ordinance.

“We need to make sure that we’re prepared, that we’re transparent about the process that when we receive more vaccine that we have an efficient way a fair way an equitable to distribute the vaccine,” Third District Councilwoman Melissa Robinson said.
