Coping with COVID: 8,000 COVID-19 vaccine appointments open up through KU Health

A vast quantity of COVID-19 vaccine appointments has become available through The University of Kansas Health System as it pushes to get more of the region vaccinated. The health system plans to soon open its vaccine clinics to non-patients and expand reach to surrounding counties.

The University of Kansas Health System says that they have 8,000 vaccine appointments available.

Appointments are open to “anyone who lives in Kansas or works in Johnson County,” the health system said in a Wednesday media briefing.

“The bottom line is, any resident of Kansas – please call to get an appointment whether you are our patient or not. And, if you live in Missouri or elsewhere and work in Johnson County, come get a shot.”

Doctors said the health system needs to fill 8,000 open vaccine appointments. Anyone who lives in Kansas or works in Johnson County and is age 16 or older is eligible for a vaccine.

Currently, the health system is only making appointments for patients, or people who live or work in Johnson and Wyandotte counties. They hope to open up the clinic to even more counties in the near future.
