Kansas City-based Massman-Clarkson, A Joint Venture, was selected by the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) as the design-build contractor to replace the bridge.
Estimated to cost around $220 million to build, construction for the new bridge is set to begin in spring 2022 and be fully complete by late fall 2024.
Those behind the project say construction will provide a safer, more connected and accessible transportation facility to improve regional and local system performance.
“We are thrilled by the decision and look forward to working with Massman-Clarkson, A Joint Venture,” Missouri Department of Transportation Kansas City District Engineer Dave Silvester said. “This is such an important regional project that wouldn’t happen without the partnership between the City of Kansas City and MoDOT.”
Previously known as the Broadway Bridge, the river overpass opened in 1956 and pre-COVID was used by around 50,000 vehicles daily.
