Commerce Bank has appointed a new chief accounting officer following Paul Steiner’s decision to depart the company later this year.

Steiner will be resigning from Commerce Bank and will “pursue other opportunities,” according to a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission. Commerce Bank said Steiner’s decision is not due to any disagreement with the company.

Steiner will remain with Commerce Bank through July 7.

Steven A. Brandjord will succeed Steiner as corporate controller and chief accounting officer, effective May 2026. In May, Brandjord will also be officially appointed to the Commerce Bank board. As part of his new role, Brandjord will be granted around 2,100 restricted stock units.

Brandjord first joined Commerce Bank in 2014, where he served as a tax project manager. He was then promoted to senior tax manager in 2018 and promoted again to his current role as assistant controller and director of tax in 2019.

Before Commerce Bank, Brandjord served as the senior manager in the tax area for BKD, LLP in the Kansas City metro area.

Commerce Bank is the primary subsidiary of Commerce Bancshares, Inc., which operates with $32.9 billion in assets. The bank has locations in 11 states and with the acquisition of FineMark Holdings, Inc., which was completed on January 1, Commerce has increased its presence in Florida, Arizona and South Carolina.
