Children’s Mercy Kansas City has announced an expansion plan for its Overland Park campus with a $152 million phased project that will add improved access to services and new programs.
“We’re really excited about this project because it shows how dedicated we are to giving the best care possible to our community,” president and CEO of Children’s Mercy, Alejandro Quiroga, said in a release. “By bringing all our outpatient services together, improving our hospital facilities, and creating a modern, connected campus, we’re making sure we can meet the growing needs of patients and families in the region.”
The $152 million expansion plan for Children’s Mercy Hospital Kansas (CMHK) is underway with phase one of the project currently in development. Last month, Children’s Mercy announced its plans to build a new 18,000-square-foot multi-specialty ambulatory clinic in Wichita.
Phase one will see the expansion of surgical services including the Sterile Processing Department and the addition of new pre-op, post-op, and procedural spaces.
Construction is set to be complete by summer 2026.
Additional expansions of the project include a new state-of-the-art medical office building, scheduled to be completed in the summer of 2027, that will consolidate outpatient services currently spread across multiple locations. New upgrades to the hospital space are expected to be completed by the summer of 2029. The plan also introduces new service offerings such as Inpatient Rehab, Intensive Outpatient Programs, an expanded GI Motility program and a Neuroscience Center of Excellence.
Parking and exterior features of the campus will also be updated and modernized with parking and emergency services accessible throughout construction.
