Overland Park planning commissioners approved the final development plan for an expansion project at the Children’s Mercy Overland Park campus.

The final development plans detail a 116,767 square-foot addition to the north side of the campus. The project will include an addition to a medical office building, a lobby expansion, and a parking deck. The expansion is about 10,000 square feet less than the developer’s preliminary plan, shown in September.

The medical office building will be four stories with an additional two stories for the penthouse and penthouse roof. New entrances will be added to the building on the west, east, and north, in addition to the existing south entrances. The existing 52-bed hospital and the easternmost parking lot will not change as part of the development plan.

The medical office building addition is part of a larger $152 million phased development announced in April.

Children’s Mercy Kansas City’s new building is expected to open in summer 2027. The entire plan also introduces new service offerings such as Inpatient Rehab, Intensive Outpatient Programs, an expanded GI Motility program, and a Neuroscience Center of Excellence. New upgrades to the hospital space are expected to be completed by the summer of 2029.
