Children’s Mercy Kansas City has launched a clinic aimed to address mental health in KC metro youth.
The clinic is called the Depression and Anxiety in Youth (DAY) and one of the first of 14 mental health projects Children’s Mercy plans to launch over the next five years.
“We are finding that rates of depression and anxiety are increasing in our youth, which impact daily functioning and overall well-being,” Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist Ram Chettiar, DO said. “While the statistics are daunting, early and effective intervention can make a significant difference.”
The DAY clinic is currently taking patients and serves children ages 12-17 who have or are suspected to have depression and anxiety. Patients are treated for up to 12 months and then transition to community resources for ongoing support, according to a news release.
The healthcare provider points out recent spikes in depression and anxiety can be linked to the consequences of the pandemic.
This project is part of the Illuminate initiative, a $150,000 investment to provide services in children’s mental health.
Children’s Mercy recently announced a joint venture with Camber Health to build a 72-bed mental health facility in Olathe, Kan.
