Children’s Mercy Kansas City announced several key leadership promotions that focus on advancing research initiatives and expanding its regional presence.

Stephanie Meyer has been promoted to executive vice president and chief nursing executive as well as the chief operating officer for inpatient operations. Meyer has spent 26 years with Children’s Mercy where she most recently has been serving as chief nursing officer. In her time at the hospital, Meyer also served in other leadership roles including vice president of patient care operations and associate chief nursing officer.

In her new role, Meyer will oversee the daily operations of inpatient care, align services with organizational goals and foster a collaborative environment among healthcare teams.

Steven Leeder has been promoted to executive vice president and chief scientific officer. As a 28-year veteran of pediatric precision therapeutics, Dr. Leeder has helped shape Children’s Mercy research initiatives. He helped develop programs such as GOLDILOKS, a research initiative and precision medicine clinic for children with complex medication-related issues.

In his new role, Dr. Leeder will continue to drive innovation and excellence in scientific research, furthering the organization’s mission to improve patient care through cutting-edge discoveries.

Amy Fallon has been promoted to President of Regional Operations. Dr. Fallon has served as vice president and chief administrative officer for Children’s Mercy Hospital Kansas in 2024. In her new role, she will oversee operations throughout the region.

Tomi Pastinen was promoted to vice president and associate chief medical officer for clinical and research integration. Dr. Pastinen has served as the Division Director of Genomic Medicine for the past seven years. He will spearhead translational research to bridge the gap between the bedside and the bench to help improve patient care and outcomes.

“These promotions reflect the remarkable talent within Children’s Mercy and our shared vision for the future,” president and CEO of Children’s Mercy Kansas City, Alejandro Quiroga, said in a Thursday release. “Their leadership, expertise and dedication will undoubtedly continue to strengthen our organization and enhance our ability to provide the best possible care to the children and families in our community.”

In December, Children’s Mercy Kansas City appointed Dr. Quiroga as its new president and CEO, having assumed the role in early January.
