Children’s Mercy Kansas City, which earned its fifth Magnet Hospital designation in 2020, is one of only 49 hospitals–out of more than 6,000 nationwide–included in a review of health-care facilities that have earned that distinction at least five times.
That’s according to the American Nurses Credentialing Center, which updated its elite-hospitals list this year with the addition of Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. Earlier this year, Barnes-Jewish earned its fifth Magnet certification. Before that, Children’s Mercy was the only hospital in the two-state region to claim that status.
The ANCC started the magnet program to help hospitals nationwide align under a common set of standards for nursing excellence. It highlights facilities that provide the highest levels of patient care with practices that are considered most up-to-date and innovative.
