BEST AUTO DEALER (DOMESTIC)
In any given year, you can almost bank on a Ford dealership earning the Gold for domestic vehicle sales. And so it is in 2022, this time with Bob Sight Ford of Overland Park taking the top honors for its work with new and used vehicles, sales, parts, and service. Silver produced a tie—shocker, we know—between two more Ford dealerships: one focused on individual transportation (Dick Smith Ford) and one on trucks and truck fleet sales (Midway Ford Truck Center). Cable Dahmer Chevrolet steps in to prevent a clean sweep by Ford, flexing its muscles across five dealerships with its Chevrolet, Buick, and Cadillac lines.
BEST AUTO DEALER (FOREIGN)
A perennial favorite here, Aristocrat Motors drives off to its home in Merriam with another Gold, fueled by reader satisfaction with its incomparable suite of Mercedes Benz, Porche, Maserati, Jaguar, Alfa Romeo, and Range Rover options. In south Kansas City, Molle Toyota and its line of new and used cars and trucks is the clear choice for Silver, but it’s not just the selection—parts, service and financing are all part of the vote-earning package. State Line Nissan, adding to the car buyer’s paradise that is 103rd Street, snaps up the Bronze.
BEST FLORIST
Always one of the most competitive categories in Best of Business, floral services live up to its reputation, with Toblers Flowers edging out the competition for Gold. Flowers, plants, wedding, and special-event services—all of it is on the menu for customers of this fixture in the 18th and Vine District. Silver goes to a relative newcomer to voting here, The Little Flower Shop, tucked into Westwood Hills on State Line and offering floral arrangements and designs for all manner of events. Michael’s Heritage Florist and The Fiddly Fig share the Bronze honors.
BEST JEWELER
Brushing aside challenges from national players, a pair of local heavyweights sparkle here, with Meierotto Jewelers leads the pack. The North Kansas City company proudly proclaims to offer the city’s biggest selection of diamonds and jewelry, and from the looks of the balloting, few readers contest that claim. Tivol, another long-time hometown favorite, with locations on the Country Club Plaza and Overland Park’s Hawthorne Plaza, carts home the Silver.
BEST LIQUOR/WINE SELLER
Each year, it seems, Lukas Wine & Spirits Superstore grows in esteem with voters who resoundingly made it the 2022 choice for Gold. It’s not just the broad and deep selection of wines, spirits, ales, and lagers, it’s the experience of a staff that knows what’s good and how to pair it with foods that make any meal complete. From Westport to Brookside to Waldo locations, Mike’s Wine & Spirits stands ready to help stock your bar or load the cooler for tailgating, and that’s solid Silver in this category. Five Gomer’s locations provide easy access to almost anyone in this region and do more than sell off the shelf—event beverage planning services, delivery, gift baskets, and gift certificates are also part of the Bronze-winning lineup.
BEST OFFICE FURNISHING FIRM
The pandemic has played heck with office leasing, but the truth is, office work will be with us for a long time. And filling those locations with the right furniture, workstations and, workplace design has made Scott Rice Office Works a go-to provider of workplace solutions, so much so that it wins the Gold here. Beyond the traditional office, it specializes in the needs for educational, health care, and General Services Administration settings. Lenexa-based John A. Marshall Co., with its full-service lineup of fixtures and furnishing, scores the Silver.
BEST MEN’S APPAREL
There’s more to sartorial splendor than the sharp business suit, but whether it’s for work or leisure, men can find what they’re looking for at Gold winner Nordstrom. The longtime anchor at Oak Park mall supplements the clothing lines with a robust roster of accessories. Halls, always a reader favorite in this category, finishes strong with the Silver. Two names—one a longtime player, one a relative newcomer—share the Bronze: Michael’s Fine Clothing, closing in on 50 years in business, and six-year-old Ulah in Westwood.
BEST WOMEN’S APPAREL
Irrespective of the current social climate, Halls can tell you what a woman is—and what she wants to wear, either to the office or outside it. Selection, quality, and service combine to make the Crown Center store the Gold choice. From its home in Hawthorne Plaza, Talbots rises to the occasion and claims Silver, while Bronze goes further south into Overland Park to reside at Von Maur in Corbin Park.
Congratulations once again to all the winners of Ingram’s 34th annual Best of Business Kansas City awards!
