Business park to begin $71M expansion this spring

January 2022

The New Century Business Park in Johnson County is expected to see the start of a four-phase expansion by master developer, VanTrust Real Estate. Construction will begin at 59th Street and Highway 56, and at its completion cover 2.5 million square feet.

Existing space at the business park consists of 9.5 million square feet, making it one of the largest industrial parks in the Kansas City area.

Estimated to cost just over $15 million in initial infrastructure, the $71 million project will cover 250 acres.

New Century Business Park is a planned 845-acre industrial center near New Century AirCenter. Around $287.4 million in private investment over 10 years will be injected into the park.

Lease payments will benefit the Johnson County Airport Commission’s budget. In October 2020, the Johnson County’s Board of Commissioners approved the rezoning and a preliminary development plan for the commerce center.

Included in phase one developments are additions to water, wastewater and dry utilities. Roughly 7.2 million square feet has been approved by the commission for eight warehouses. Around 601,500 square feet has been set for seven aviation facilities.
