The Unified Government of Wyandotte County and Kansas City, Kansas has approved a development agreement for a Buc-ee’s Travel Center near the Kansas Speedway.
The UG approved a zoning request and development agreement for the gas station located at 601 Village West Parkway. The new Buc-ee’s location will encompass a 74,000-square-foot travel center, outfitted with 120 gas fuel pumps and approximately 12 electric charging stations.
Portions of Village West Parkway will be vacated and widened to accommodate multiple turn lanes and a roundabout for continuous traffic.
The developer—Delaware-based CSMS Management, LLC—has until March 1, 2025, to clear conditions on the development site. Then, it is required to commence construction within the following 60 days. Construction is expected to be complete within 24 of beginning development.
CSMS will be reimbursed through TIF and CID financing, totaling over $13 million. Both TIF and CID proceeds would be available to CSMS on a pay-as-you-go basis, without bonds, according to the development agreement.
Founded in 1982, Buc-ee’s operates 49 locations, including one in Springfield, MO that opened its doors in Dec. last year. The average Buc-ee’s location employs around 200 people. The chain is famous for its beaver mascot, 100-plus gas pump and its assortment of road travel snacks.
