Buc-ee’s could soon see a future 74,000-square-foot travel center near the Kansas Speedway if approved by the Unified Government of Wyandotte County/Kansas City, Kansas this week.
The request would change a 25.80-acre site, located at 601 Village West Parkway, from an agricultural district to a planned commercial district. If approved, Buc-ee’s would build a 74,000-square-foot travel center with 120 gas fuel pumps. The UG is slated to review the request on Nov. 7.
To the north of the site are the Kansas Speedway and Hollywood Casino and the Chateau Avalon Hotel to the east. The total tract size of the parcel is 56 acres, but only 25 acres are being platted.
Additionally, the proposed travel center would also include 560 parking stalls, improvement to Interstate-70 and electric-vehicle charging stations.
Founded in 1982, Buc-ee’s operates 49 locations, including one in Springfield, MO that opened its doors in Dec. last year. The average Buc-ee’s location employs around 200 people. The chain is famous for its beaver mascot, 100-plus gas pump and its assortment of road travel snacks.
