On the brink of a permanent closing, the Procter & Gamble plant located in Kansas City, Kan. will remain open, thanks to a boost in product demand caused by COVID-19.
Originally scheduled to close at the end of 2020, the manufacturing plant recently announced that it will pause plans to shut down for at least the next two years, backtracking on plans to move production to West Virginia by the end of the year.
“We are extending operations at our Kansas City facility until sometime in our 2023-24 Fiscal Year. This is driven by unprecedented demand for the products made in Kansas City,” a Procter & Gamble spokesperson said in a Fox 4 News report.
Built in 1905, the 574,000-square-foot Kansas City, Kan. currently works to make Dawn and Gain dish detergent and provides railway access to Union Pacific, BNSF and the locally headquartered Kansas City Southern.
Although the building has already been sold, the decision to remain open for the time being has saved 125 jobs.
