The former Bannister Federal Complex turned Blue River Commerce Center will soon see work on its second of seven industrial buildings begin. NorthPoint Development is ready to break ground on the 438,000-square-foot building, which it hopes will be fully operational by the end of 2021.

Construction of Blue River 2 is expected to soon begin by NorthPoint Development.

Blue River 2 is the second of seven planned industrial buildings to be built in the Blue River Commerce Center, grounds formally known as the Bannister Federal Complex.

With help from a $25 million bond issuance from Port KC, NorthPoint said it is ready to break ground on the 438,000-square-foot industrial building.

The commerce center sits on 229 acres. Just recently, environmental remediation was completed at the northeast corner of Bannister Road and Troost Avenue.

Blue River 2 will supplement the 242,353-square-foot Blue River 1 building, on which NorthPoint already has started construction along Troost.

By the end of 2021, NorthPoint expects Blue River 1 and most of Blue River 2 to be leased and fully operational.

Fully built from west to east, Blue River Commerce Center is planned to house 2.6 million square feet of Class A industrial space, capable of supporting 1,500 new jobs.
