Blue KC to return to Affordable Care Act marketplace



Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City, the region’s largest healthcare insurance provider, has decided to once again offer individual Affordable Care Act (ACA) plans for 2021 since leaving the market in 2018.

On Tuesday, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City announced it will be making a return to the Affordable Care Act (ACA) market since departing it in 2018.

The decision comes from the new, rising need from people who have lost their jobs, and consequently healthcare coverage, as a result of COVID-19.

Blue KC is the Kansas City region’s largest healthcare insurance providers, and with a more stable 2020 for the company, they plan to return to once again offer Affordable Care Act plan starting next year in 2021.

Individuals can explore pricing and plans starting on Nov. 1, 2020, according to a Tuesday news release, and can begin enrolling during an open enrollment period from Nov. 1 to Dec.15, 2020. Plans sold during this period will begin Jan. 1.

Health coverage services provided by Blue KC currently cover more than one million residents in the greater Kansas City area, including Johnson and Wyandotte counties in Kansas and 30 counties in Northwest Missouri.
