The Black Chamber of Commerce of Greater Kansas City has named Cecilia Belser-Patton as the new executive director.
Belser-Patton assumes her role effective August 1, according to a release. Her new responsibilities will be to manage day-to-day operations and lead fundraising programs as well as marketing and community engagement initiatives. She succeeds A. Marie Young.
“Not only will she bring experience, enthusiasm and great communications skills, she provides the intuitive young leadership we need,” president of the Back Chamber’s Board of Directors, Kelvin Perry said in a release.
Belser-Patton served as the director of program for the Surge Institute, a non-profit organization in Chicago. She also served as a lead, senior trainer and curriculum designer developer for the Kauffman Foundation SPARK Heartland, and director of equity and inclusion for Healthcare for Missouri.
“It is my aim to be strategic, intentional and instrumental in our efforts for entrepreneurs and
entrepreneurship in Kansas City’s economic ecosystems,” Belser-Patton said in the release. “By fostering vibrant innovation and excellence that we bring to Kansas City, we expect to increase and solidify sustainable impact on the business landscape for Black businesses and entrepreneurs.”
Belser-Patton earned her BA degree in English from the University of Oklahoma and her MA in Fine Arts from the University of Missouri, Kansas City. She is currently pursuing work on her Executive MBA at Rockhurst University.
