Another 5.2 million people filed for unemployment last week, according to the U.S. Department of Labor, bringing the total over the last four weeks to about 22 million.
For the week ended April 4, the number was revised up by 4.5 million, making it hit just under 12 million. That brought the official insured unemployment rate to 8.2 percent, breaking the previous high of seven percent in May of 1975. Reported estimates of actual unemployment range from 13 to 18 percent.
In Missouri 95,785 people filed for unemployment insurance last week, while there were 30,769 in Kansas.
