Another 3 Million File for Unemployment

The unemployment picture doesn’t seem like it will change in a significant way any time soon.

For the week ended May 9, just under three million filed for unemployment insurance, reported the U.S. Department of Labor, following the prior week’s 3.1 million people.

This makes the insured employment rate 15.7 percent, though the real unemployment rate is thought to be 24.9 percent.

Both Kansas and Missouri had a drop in claims for the week ended May 9. Kansas fell to 13,138 from 15,959 the prior week. Missouri was down to 28,939 from 52,527.
