The Unified Government of Wyandotte County/Kansas City has voted to approve a CID request for American Royal’s $375 million project to transition into Wyandotte.
On Thursday, UG commissioners approved a community improvement district and sales tax rate to accompany it. The American Royal is moving its location Northwest of the Kansas Speedway at 118th and State Avenue, Kansas City, Kansas. The CID will create a 1% sales tax rate to be added to the total sales tax rate on July 1, 2026, to continue for a maximum term of 22 years.
American Royal’s Wyandotte County campus will include a 125,000 square-foot show arena with 5,000 seats, a 90,000 square-foot multipurpose arena, a 75,000 square-foot outdoor arena, a 390,000 square-foot livestock exhibition hall, an 80,000 square-foot agricultural education center and 20,000 square feet of admin space. American Royal can also include a festival grounds area during its second phase of construction.
The estimated project cost would increase to approximately $450 million.
In April, UG commissioners approved a $155 million STAR bond for the project, nearly double what American Royal first requested. The bonds would help fund land, sitework, infrastructure, and construction costs. The American Royal first broke ground on its Wyandotte campus in March 2023.
