After months of theater closures across the U.S. and a pushed-back reopening date, Leawood-based AMC is finally opening its doors to the public Thursday.
To celebrate its 100-year anniversary and to attract more movie-goers, AMC is offering “Movies in 2020 at 1920 prices” on opening day only, selling tickets at 1920s prices (15 cents).
Included in reopening plans is the introduction of a new sanitation program called “AMC Safe and Clean.”
The theater chain has said they are capping capacity at 40% along with requiring that employees and visitors wear face masks, also providing hand sanitizer stations and disinfectant wipes throughout theaters.
Included are enhanced cleaning with electrostatic sprayers, HEPA vacuums and upgraded air filtration.
With all the extended efforts to make visiting customers feel safe, just how enticing opening day looks remains to be determined.
While there have been mixed reviews about the chain’s reopening from individuals living in the metro, a financial report from the most recent quarter shows that AMC Entertainment needs to open its doors, revealing a loss of $561 million due to closures.
Five metro locations open to the public starting today which include Ward Parkway, Independence, Town Center, Barrywoods and Olathe.
