For the first time in months, delay-corrected death data from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) shows a drop below the baseline, according to a recent coronavirus report from Issues & Insights.

According CDC data through Aug. 29, predicted excess deaths have moved below the threshold for excess deaths, dropping 14 percent below baseline as predicted in July.
The report addresses that while COVID-19 is still out there and a threat to some, the virus does not pose the same risk it did earlier in the year.
Promising changes have occurred over the last several months to aid in the treatment of COVID-19, the reports notes.
These changes show the emergence of effective treatments which include a new drug called Ab8, reported to be effective in prevention and treatment of the virus, the use of dexamethasone and its benefits for critically ill patients, and a hospital trial of interferon-beta which resulted in a decrease for patients requiring ventilation, among others.
Data and recent and ongoing developments leave room for promise and perhaps a lift on restrictions, although most areas with restrictions in place have yet to make in changes.
