Beginning Friday, Missouri will be imposing stricter laws for violent crime cases involving use of a deadly weapon.

New law aimed at reducing violent crime in Missouri with mandatory prison sentences and increased penalties comes in under Senate Bill 600, a bill signed by Gov. Parson last month in July and scheduled to officially take effect today.
“SB 600 holds violent offenders accountable for their actions and is a major step towards safety and justice for our communities,” Parson wrote in a statement. “We must continue working together to identify solutions, address crime, and keep Missourians safe.”
Moving forward, people convicted of murder or any dangerous felony involving a deadly weapon will no longer be eligible to be sentenced to probation.
