Kansas City Crime Stoppers sees increase in reports

An increase in homicides this year has seen more involvement from law enforcement on the local and federal level, the Greater Kansas City Crime Stoppers now seeing an increase in the number of tips to their hotline.

Due to a variety of factors, the Kansas City metro has seen a significant increase in the number of homicides so far this year.

One local mom, Aishah Coppage, who lost her young son and another family member to homicide in 2016, is urging people to report what they know to the TIPS Hotline, reports 41 Action News.

Coppage hopes that calls to the hotline could help her and others during a time where Kansas City, Mo. is on track to break a record for homicides.

The Greater Kansas City Crime Stoppers is seeing an uptick in tip calls, receiving 526 tips between Jan. 1 and Aug.12, according to Detective Kevin Boehm with the organization.

“We have gotten some good community support,” Boehm said. “So far this year, actually five tips through crime stoppers have led to solving homicides in Kansas City, Mo.”
