Just three days after the Cup Series made a statement against racism at Atlanta Motor Speedway, NASCAR made an announcement Wednesday afternoon saying they are officially banning the showing of the confederate flag at all venues and future events.

A statement was posted by NASCAR saying, “The presence of the Confederate flag at NASCAR events runs contrary to our commitment to providing a welcoming and inclusive environment for all fans, our competitors and our industry. Bringing people together around a love for racing and the community it creates is what makes fans and sport special. The display of the Confederate flag will be prohibited from all NASCAR events and properties.”
The issue and resulting ban of the flag came as a result of the nation-wide protests against racism over the last few weeks.
NASCAR driver Bubba Wallace, the first black man to race in the NASCAR Cup Series since 2006, spoke days before on the matter, publicly speaking out against the use of the confederate flag at NASCAR events, saying that there is no place for them.
