Dozens of speakers gathered at a city council meeting Tuesday to address the committee over charges made against protesters over previous weeks.

Although the majority of people speaking at the meeting asked for charges to be dropped, speakers on both sides were able to voice their opinions and concerns, including a group of wives of Kansas City police officers, according to a report by KCTV 5 News.
“I think it shows our community is not only united, but we actually want to see change in how our community is ran,” Justice Horn, a member of the community present at the meeting said to Fox 4 News. Horn was one of many who came to advocate for change.
“It shows the city is concerned about people’s democracy and their right to protest and also preserving the rule of law because law enforcement should not be trifling on people’s rights if they’re not violating any law,” Kansas City Councilman Brandon Ellington said to Fox 4 News.
However, more than 140 letters have poured into the city requesting a “no” vote.
The Kansas City Fraternal Order of Police said some members have even threatened to quit if arrests they made are invalidated, the same report by Fox 4 News said.
There will be a legal review for the proposed ordinance change on Thursday morning followed by a committee hearing at 12:30 p.m.
