Another 4.4 Million File for Unemployment



Just over 4.4 million people filed for unemployment insurance for the week ended April 18, putting the insured unemployment rate at 11 percent, though many estimates place that number much higher.

The 11 percent is 2.8 percentĀ  higher than the prior week and the highest number on record. More than 26 million people have lost their jobs since the COVID-19 outbreak.

Meanwhile, the for the prior week, total numbers were adjusted upwards by four million to just under 16 million. It is said that the total jobs lost erases the job gains that took place during the Great Recession.

Over the last two weeks about 154,000 Missourians have filed for unemployment insurance, while just over 98,000 have done so in Kansas.
