Stimulus Check Would Cover Most KC Mortgages

More than half of Kansas City-area homeowners would be able to make a monthly mortgage payment and and cover their utilities with a $1,200 stimulus check, while a vast majority could make those expenditures with two checks totaling $2,400.

Kansas City metro residents pay a median mortgage payment, according to Redfin, and a $1,200 check would cover a mortgage and utility payments for 52 percent of them for a month. With $2,400 coming in, 88 percent would be covered.

On the national front, with a U.S. median mortgage payment of $1,566, a single check would handle payments for 47 percent of households, and $2,400 would cover 80 percent.
