The Kansas Commerce Department released a new map for the Kansas City Chiefs STAR Bonds District.
Lieutenant Governor and Secretary of Commerce David Toland published the map with the boundaries of the STAR Bond district.
The STAR Bond district will collect new sales tax revenues to finance the new $3 billion domed stadium in Wyandotte County, the Chiefs’ next headquarters and training facility in Olathe and portions of the surrounding $1 billion mixed-use development.
The district includes the cities of Kansas City, Bonner Springs, Edwardsville, Shawnee, Lenexa and Olathe. The map was designed around maximizing the economic impact of the project and paying the bonds off as early as possible so revenues can be directed back to the State and participating local communities.

“Establishing the district boundaries moves us one step closer to building the Chiefs’ new state-of-the-art domed stadium in Kansas,” Toland said in a release. “This is a once-in-a-generation economic opportunity for Kansas and we will ensure that all Kansans enjoy the benefits of this new stadium for many, many years to come.”
The Chiefs project will create over 4,000 new permanent jobs and generate $1 billion in annual economic impact. The team is expected to begin playing in the new stadium by 2031.
The 11-member Kansas Sports Facilities Authority will oversee the construction, financing and management of the new stadium and practice facility.
